CRE & Innovation: a case for porosity

Corporate real estate (CRE) porosity refers to the idea of  letting non-staff and the public realm “bleed” into the building. It drives innovation and is increasingly considered as part of wider marketing, customer engagement and innovation strategies.

Often, porosity begins when companies identify surplus space inside their corporate walls. They may wish to simply re-think a very traditional reception area. If an entire floorplate were going spare, the business may consider renting it as a separate private space. However, they could choose to invite suppliers or the local business community to work alongside them in a co-working arrangement. That is the essence of CRE porosity.
