Aloe, is it me you’re
looking for?

We often get questions about what are the best types of plants to have in the office.

One plant which is usually overlooked is the Aloe Vera. Many people know about the healing/medicinal properties of Aloe Vera, but it has a few other tricks up its sleeve that perhaps you weren’t aware of and make it a great plant for an office environment.

1) Air Quality

They’re great at improving air quality – it’s even known as nature’s air purifier. One issue in many office environments is recycled air. Having plants like Aloe Vera in the office space can help lower carbon dioxide levels, which it does during the night.

It also helps to remove chemicals such as formaldehyde from the air, which is often present in both office and home environments, especially in a newly refurbished space. Removing formaldehyde from the air will reduce headaches and improve the quality of sleep.

2) Low Maintenance

They’re low maintenance, which is one of the key considerations for any office plants. They thrive on limited water and care. In most cases 1-2 inches of water every month will keep your Aloe Vera thriving!

3) Hay Good Looking

They look great! Aloe Vera has a vibrant impactful colour and is an interesting shape. Let’s be honest, no one wants a boring plant!

4) Medicinal Properties

It has those medicinal properties which can’t be overlooked, helping to soothe burns supporting accelerated healing. It ‘s even reported to prevent wrinkles but we will let you test that theory.

5) Cost-effective

They’re cost-effective. A small Aloe Vera plant costs as little as £10, but that’s not the full story; Aloe Vera is great at creating plantlets which can be re-potted. Then, hey presto that £10 investment for one Aloe Vera plant is two plants in a year, and by the plants fourth year you can have 10+ additional plants. Pretty cost-effective we would say.

So in answer to the question of what plant is great in an office environment, we would recommend saying aloe to our little friend the Aloe Vera.
