Assistant Estimator – Surveyor

An Assistant Estimator/Surveyor at Dale Office Interiors ultimately calculates out how much it costs to supply an office refurbishment or fitout of a building to a client. They will be involved in a project from the very beginning, often whilst in competition with other companies. They can be the difference between winning and losing a project.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Understanding all the components of any bid process eg. H&S implications, potential life value of client etc. and factor into bid development as necessary.
  • Working alongside the sales and design team to understand the client’s requirements.
  • Research materials, equipment, and labour costs and secure the best rates.
  • Complete detailed take offs and issue bill of quantities to sub-contractors.
  • Input all relevant product specification and pricing information into the proposal.
  • Collate competitive quotes from approved sub-contractors and suppliers.
  • Assess the levels of H&S and financial risk on a project.
  • Attend pre-start meetings and produce completed procurement pack to handover to project managers and site team.
  • Attend meetings with clients, sub-contractors etc.
  • Visit site and price variations.
  • Assist project managers with negotiation of project final accounts and attend final account meetings.
  • Alongside the project manager, monitor the progress of a project to ensure costs are kept in line with the projected budget forecasts and maximise profits.
  • Help with bids for existing repeat business and new contracts and support buying activities.
  • Meeting and liaising with materials and furniture suppliers
 

The successful candidate for the role of Estimator will:

  • Have at least 3 years of design and build/construction experience in project management, construction services sales, or estimating.
  • Have good forward planning ability and will be required to make judgements and
  • assessments in relation to budget costs from limited information.
  • Have excellent teamwork skills.
  • Have a good knowledge of Microsoft packages, CAD, Adobe, and estimating software.
  • Good knowledge of trades
  • High attention to detail
  • Ultimately have a positive, can-do attitude.
